I love big hair. Which is why my latest protective style is so big and full of personality. My natural texture has changed so much over the last decade. It’s becoming harder and harder to create styles that give me the thick, dense look that I prefer. So, on my latest trip to my favorite local beauty supply in Nashville (Kim’s Hair Plus), I came across this super thick twist-out crochet braid style and decided to give it a try. Isn’t it cute? Meet Janet Collection’s – 2X Rod Twist Braid.
I love the texture and natural sheen of this style. Fresh out of the pack the hair gives off a really natural look and feel. It’s bouncy and a bit heavy depending on how many packs you use. For my style I used a little over 3 double packs. That may be a lot for most people, but I prefer a nice thick cover plus I love to camouflage my natural braids.
After a few days of wear, you will likely experience tangles and the individual twists you see here, will lose a bit of definition due to a lot of separating strands. My solution for that is to give the hair a little trim. Cut off loose strands close to the root, about 2 inches away from your knot.
Maintainance Tip: If the worn in, bushy look isn’t for you, you can also rod set or roller set the ends of this hair to regain definition. Just boil some water in a sauce pan, remove from heat and dip the ends of your twists in the water for about 30 seconds. Squeeze any excess water out with a towel and allow to air dry or dry on low heat with a hair dryer.
If big hair is your thing and you don’t mind the maintenance or the added weight, I’d recommend this style for you. It’s definitely worth giving it a try. If available, look for the double pack option. It’ll save you some money and time on your install.
