Back to school shopping isn’t something I’m easily excited over. It’s a yearly expense that we know is coming but just aren’t prepared for…mentally. Seriously. Every year I go through this struggle with my wallet and I pledge to not spend over a certain amount. In addition, every year since kindergarten that amount seems to increase lol. Well this year, I’m sticking to my guns. My budget is set and I’m not budging.
This weekend I finished shopping for school clothes for my son and it was all thanks to 2 really good sales I caught at the mall, at H&M and The Children’s Place.
I’m not really a mall shopper, but every once in a while the mood will strike me to go see what’s poppin’ in the stores and grab my usual cup of pretzel bites from Auntie Anne’s.
I do realize that this weekend will be tax-free weekend in Tennessee, but I’m so glad I decided to grab all of his school clothes this week. It will save me time and the hassle of scrambling for everyone’s so-called “deals”.
Thank goodness for the relaxed dress code at my son’s school this year too. It really makes school shopping so much easier for us as a family. Because of it, I was able to score a lot of denim, button ups and collared polo style shirts on sale.
Back To School Shopping at H&M
So H&M has a lot of Buy 2 get 1 free deals on their cotton separates for boys. Be sure to look for the green circle hanging tags on the items you’re looking to buy. If the buy 2 deals aren’t for you, they also have really nice button up tops on sale for $9.99 as well as pants.
I managed to find these plain white air force 1’s type sneakers for $30. My son is a master at destroying sneakers so I really love the thick soles and ruggedness of these. I’m sure they probably won’t stay white for long, but at least the shoes have a chance at lasting for a long time.
The only issue you may run into when buying sneakers at H&M is the amount of styles available in each size. It was really hard trying to find a size 3 in any of the styles he liked. We finally settled on these because I got tired of searching.
The Children’s Place
Children’s Place carries boys sizes baby to size 16. In all the years I’ve been buying baby & toddler clothes from there, I never really paid attention to the fact that they carry bigger boys sizes too. I’m so mad at myself for not coming here last year for his school clothes when we switched from a “uniform” school to a relaxed dress code school.

The Best Deal
I feel like I got the best deal at Children’s Place. All of their bootcut and straight leg denim was $7.99/pair. Pleated pants were $10. If you’re into skinny’s…sidenote. I am soooo not. I personally believe that little boys growing testicles should be able to breathe and move freely. Listen, I know this sounds funny, but I’m dead serious. Plus, their legs should be able to bend in phys. ed and at recess. But that’s another story for another time. Mama rant is over. Anyway, skinny chino’s were decently priced too at $7.99.
Polo shirts were only $6.45 and I was able to score some denim jean shorts for $6.99.

Now all I have left to buy are school supplies. Let’s hope that my son’s school didn’t go crazy on the list this year. Cause the way my bank account is set up for fall….
Well guys, happy school shopping. Let me know if you score some great deals out there.
Did you set a budget for school shopping this year? Have you been sticking to it?
