Dollar General’s A Day of Beauty 2018 has come and gone. It’s time for me to fill you in on all of the excitement of the day and share my opinions about it all. I had a great time working again as a beauty blogger ambassador for the event. It’s always a great time working with the DG crew & event coordinators. There’s so much hard work that goes into putting on an event of this size.
This year I had the opportunity to meet more talented creators in the beauty industry and catch up with some of my colleagues. I sat in on an excellent panel discussion and caught a few demos.
But most of my time was spent on the floor shooting photos & video and interacting with people. It was a lot of fun but by the end of the evening, my entire body was tired lol.
DG Beauty Brands
Some of the best in fast beauty were there talking to consumers and giving out samples of their products found in Dollar Generals stores. I saw offerings from L.A. Colors, Covergirl, Wet n Wild, Black Radiance and Maybelline. Also DG Beauty’s newest Studio Selection products.
DG Beauty Entertainment
There were celebrity appearances by recording artist, Tina Campbell, celeb stylist, Ursula Stephen, and Wendy Joseph, brand ambassador for African Pride.
Elise Neal was the Keynote speaker of the day. Not only did she look classy and gorgeous in her red suit and heels. She also gave an inspiring speech about staying beautiful from the inside out. Afterward, she graciously took pics with her fans and with the influencer crew.
It was really cool meeting her.
I also had a great time getting to know L.A. Hair’s, Naja Rickett “The Nail Guru” and model/spokesperson Nikia Phoenix. These women are phenomenal! They are super passionate about their crafts and full of wisdom regarding the beauty industry.
I had a chance to sit down and chat with Nikia the night before at a private event. She was very forthcoming about her experiences working with hair brands and the industry culture of natural hair product influencers working with major brands. I’m such a fangirl of her 23 and me commercial and her dope freckles. She’s such a beauty.

Naja was so sweet and down to earth. We actually were able to get into some deeper discussions about her ambitions, the nail industry, entrepreneurship and the treatment of women of color in the beauty industry. She has a wealth of knowledge from her years of experience with celebrity clientele. I can’t wait to see what she gets into next. I also want a pair of those dope glasses she was wearing.
What’s New In Hair Care at Dollar General
The beauty swag was CRAZY as usual. But each year it seems to get bigger and better. There were so many brands! Most of them I was already familiar with but I noticed some new offerings (or maybe new to me) in hair care that weren’t there in previous years that I attended.
One of those being Mane Choice. I’m very familiar with their brand but I had no idea they had a line of products exclusive to Dollar General stores!
African Pride also has a new collection of products formulated for those of us with thirsty curls, coils, and kinks. They sent me the full Moisture Miracle collection before the event but the brand also gave away full-sized sample jars of their pre-shampoo (bomb dot com!!), moisture mask, and curling cream during A Day of Beauty.
Head and Shoulders
Before the event began I had a chance to explore the vendor booths to chat with brand reps and see which products each of them would be giving out to the community.
Many of the vendors had games or demos to keep the people excited and show off their brands. I got in a quick photo at the MBIB/Head & Shoulders booth before the crowds swooped in.
This year there were a lot of kids at the event too. So it was really nice to see many of the brands showing off their kids lines for parents. I was checking out a lot of the items for my daughter.
Quick Product Review: 2 Best In Show Products
I want to share a review of 2 items that I picked out of all the beauty swag that I received. I selected them specifically because I wanted to see how each would perform and how I could incorporate them into my beauty routine.
So let me tell you about Rexall’s Women’s Multivitamin Gummies. First thing I noticed about the product is it has absolutely no yucky aftertaste. They are delicious!
