According to the latest National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) data*, over 110 million or 35% of the U.S. population are renter’s in multi-dwelling units.  Of those mentioned, close to 38 million live in spaces or buildings with more than 5 units.  That means small living spaces for a lot of U.S. households. *Today’s post is sponsored by Groupon

You would think that a smaller space would be easier to keep organized and decorated, but that’s not necessarily the case.  Growing families can often lead to more stuff being crammed into less square footage, so we have to get really creative to keep our places looking fresh and in order.

Not only will I share a few tips on what you can do to add a touch of summer to your space. I’ll also show you how to do it inexpensively by using Groupons.

Inexpensive Ways To Summerize Your Small Apartment

Home Decor

Add some things to spruce up your place like new curtains, houseplants, flower arrangements or a new piece of accent furniture.   You can also rotate your wall art or add a new family photo collage to a barren wall.

Reuse or Repurpose

You also don’t need to go out and buy everything brand new.  Re-purpose some of your old home decor items or items you can find around the house like vases, jars, picture frames and platters.   Don’t buy new pillows, save your coins, you can add life to your throw pillows easily.  Just buy new decorative pillow covers at a fraction of the cost or you can catch a great sale like I did and purchase outdoor throw pillows.  These Mainstays pillows from Walmart are extra durable and moisture resistant.

Home Organization & Cleaning

  • Use vacuum seal bags to store heavier blankets and winter coats.
  • Store away your out of season wardrobe and bedding.
  • Steam clean carpets
  • Go through utility and coat closets and toss old coats, cleaning supplies, odds and ends, decorations, boxes and things you haven’t needed or used in the past year.
  • Go through wardrobe closets and get rid of anything that doesn’t fit, you no longer want or haven’t worn in the last 6+ months.  Don’t forget to toss or donate shoes and accessories as well.

Plant Life

House plants and flower arrangements help to bring the outside indoors. Make sure you buy the right variety for the correct amount of sunlight your space gives off.   In my case I opted for plants that required medium light.

Great tips! Guess I’m on the right track. 😁I’ve added plants. Wal-Mart had a $3 outdoor throw pillow sale a few weeks ago. Working on a photo collage now.

Yessss Groupon! lol, I’ve seen some really cute decor diy ideas on Pinterest too from dollar tree. Doesn’t have to be super expensive to be nice.

The one thing on your list I am lacking in my home are plants. Changing throw pillows is my go-to for refreshing home decor. I love using scented candles, wax warmers and essential oils to make my home smell fresh.

This was a very helpful and inspiring post because we just moved and I’m trying to …..ya know …! Spice up the house with decorative things! And make it feel like county-ish?We just bought our first house in the state of NC so yeah this was indeed helpful!

I watch your DIY’s and it looks like things are coming a long nicely. I see it’s a LOT of hard work, but you’re doing it! I’m proud of you homie! You’re inspiring me to do more.

I really like the colors on that toss pillow. That aromatherapy looks awesome. I think I am going to look into getting one of those. That particular one looks pretty cool

These pillows work in both my living room and on my balcony as outdoor pillows. Yeah that diffuser is nice. My kids and I jam to our favorite music on it when cleaning the house 🙂

So you’re saying that the key to summerizing my apartment is NOT ignoring the clutter and leaving for the beach? Ugh. I guess I gotta hit up Groupon! ? these ideas are super cute.

This post reminds that I need to start decorating more. When I first moved here I was excited to decorate. Now that I have settled in, I have lost interest in decorating.

I moved over 6 months ago and am just getting around to sprucing up the place. It happens to the best of us. But just a few tweaks can really liven up a room. Just try to do a little bit at a time.
