According to the latest National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) data*, over 110 million or 35% of the U.S. population are renter’s in multi-dwelling units. Of those mentioned, close to 38 million live in spaces or buildings with more than 5 units. That means small living spaces for a lot of U.S. households. *Today’s post is sponsored by Groupon
You would think that a smaller space would be easier to keep organized and decorated, but that’s not necessarily the case. Growing families can often lead to more stuff being crammed into less square footage, so we have to get really creative to keep our places looking fresh and in order.
Not only will I share a few tips on what you can do to add a touch of summer to your space. I’ll also show you how to do it inexpensively by using Groupons.
Inexpensive Ways To Summerize Your Small Apartment
Add some things to spruce up your place like new curtains, houseplants, flower arrangements or a new piece of accent furniture. You can also rotate your wall art or add a new family photo collage to a barren wall.
Reuse or Repurpose
You also don’t need to go out and buy everything brand new. Re-purpose some of your old home decor items or items you can find around the house like vases, jars, picture frames and platters. Don’t buy new pillows, save your coins, you can add life to your throw pillows easily. Just buy new decorative pillow covers at a fraction of the cost or you can catch a great sale like I did and purchase outdoor throw pillows. These Mainstays pillows from Walmart are extra durable and moisture resistant.
Changing your curtain rods and finials is another inexpensive way to add some pop to your window treatments. Target has a great selection of decorative rods and end pieces to choose from. They also have over 70 coupons on Groupon right now.
Home Organization & Cleaning
- Use vacuum seal bags to store heavier blankets and winter coats.
- Store away your out of season wardrobe and bedding.
- Steam clean carpets
- Go through utility and coat closets and toss old coats, cleaning supplies, odds and ends, decorations, boxes and things you haven’t needed or used in the past year.
- Go through wardrobe closets and get rid of anything that doesn’t fit, you no longer want or haven’t worn in the last 6+ months. Don’t forget to toss or donate shoes and accessories as well.
House plants and flower arrangements help to bring the outside indoors. Make sure you buy the right variety for the correct amount of sunlight your space gives off. In my case I opted for plants that required medium light.
Refill your scented oils or add a new decorative wax warmer to keep your space smelling fresh and looking updated. Use summer fragrances like mixtures of florals and summer fruits.
My personal favorite way to keep my home smelling wonderful is to use an essential oil diffuser. I’ve fallen in love with this Bluetooth Essential Oil Diffuser by Art Naturals and their Lemongrass and Sweet Orange oils. The aromas from the oils fills the rooms but doesn’t over power. Plus, It’s clean and very therapeutic. I recommend getting the Top 8 Essential Oil Set + Bluetooth Diffuser Set for $49.95. Not only will your rooms smell nice, but you can listen to your favorite music while you relax. Here are some groupons to use when shopping at Art Naturals.
