What to expect at WordCamp Nashville 2015

So I’m getting prepared to attend WordCamp Nashville 2015 this weekend.   I have my business cards on deck, my new Naturally Stellar logo tee and my questions are all ready for the help desk.   Childcare is gonna be a trip this year though, since my hubby has decided he’s gonna attend too. But one of the things I LOVE about Nashville is Drop-In Childcare…Woot Woot!!   My son is eager to go and I’m just as eager to send his little butt too.

This year’s WordPress event is being held at the Nashville School of Law on May 16th.  Tickets are $20 and from what I can tell, they only have a few spots left.  So if you’re looking to snag a ticket at the last-minute, you better be quick!

So basically WordCamp is broken down into 3 learning tracks, Beginners, Intermediate and Developer.  You are welcomed to attend any of the sessions you wish.  With your ticket purchase you get a snazzy t-shirt and WordPress swag, Lunch – Which I can tell you is pretty delicious.  At least mine was last year.   You get a nice boxed lunch and you can choose your options when you purchase your ticket.  You also get coffee and water throughout the day.

WiFi is available and the venue has plenty of outlets to plug-in your devices if necessary.  I would suggest bringing your Hot Spot if you have one since everybody and their grandma is gonna be on the network.

Since I’ve been on the WordPress platform for about 3 years now, I feel very comfortable with my skills.  Attending these conferences helps me to pick up new skills and opens my eyes to the numerous things that WordPress can do for me and my blog as well as for some of my future endeavors.   I really would like to boost my technical knowledge a bit and look into more ways to maximize what I already do.   Outside of blogging, I have goals to move into Social Media Community Management and maybe start teaching some E-courses on Blogging and the technical side of getting your WordPress site to work wonders for you.   So…this year I’ll be checking out:

  • New Mom, New Town, New Job and the Biggest WordPress Site of my Career – Beginner
  • A Beginner’s Guide to Writing and Sharing WordPress Plugins – Intermediate
  • How to grow your email list with WordPress – Beginner
  • Is Your Back Porch Ready for Visitors? RSS Feeds  – Beginner
  • Getting started with custom post types and Taxonomies – Intermediate

I really wanna sit in on the Entry level PHP and Theming session (Intermediate), because custom coding is the shiznit!   I’ve done a lot of it on my blog with help from the WordPress community and online tutorials.  I really would like to have a better grasp on PHP.  My only concern is, this session is gonna be at the same time as one of the other courses I planned on attending, so I’ll just have to decide when I get there, how I’ll do it.    Maybe I can get hubby to tag team and record one for me so I don’t miss anything.

I’ll be doing a full recap of the event, so if you’re interested, be on the lookout for that and make sure you’re subscribed to get my posts either by email,  by feed (RSS Reader) or right here from within WordPress.   The WP Follow button should pop up at the bottom of your screen or you can subscribe from the right side bar.

Well, Have a great weekend Stars!  Until next time.
