Pin5Share21TweetShareEmail26 SharesIsland Vibes Restaurant is one of the hidden foodie gems I’ve come across in the Antioch neighborhood of Nashville. At first glance, the outside is reminiscent of the re-purposed house businesses of the 12th Avenue and Berry Hill areas of the city. The place has a very cozy, no frills, home style atmosphere. When you enter, the first thing you’ll see is vibrantly colored walls. On my Friday night visit, we were serenaded by Bob Marley music while a nice slide show of his image played on a flat screen TV.Photo Credit: Island Vibes Facebook Fan PageThe menu is very simple, with some of the most popular Caribbean dishes featured.Image Credit: YelpThe hubbs had the Curry Chicken, which came with a large thigh and 2 legs, floating and smothered in a beautiful pool of curry. The chicken was accompanied by 3 sides of Rice & Peas, Steamed Vegetables and deliciously sweet Fried Plantains. I wish I had a photo to share, but unfortunately the pic that was supposed to get snapped, was quickly forgotten about when his plate arrived.Hey, we were hungry LOL.Whenever I visit a Caribbean restaurant, the first thing I look for is oxtails on the menu. It’s like I’m forever drawn to this dish. I can’t help it, it’s my favorite. You can’t have any wimpy oxtails either, or ever tell me that you’re all out of then. That’s a big NO, NO in my book. But in order for me to truly rave about a Caribbean restaurant, my decision, 9 times out of 10 is based on the oxtails and how good or bad they are.CHECK THIS OUT ✴ My Nashville Foodie Adventures - Korean, Gyros and BBQIf you mess up my oxtails or brown stew chicken…then I can’t trust anything else on the menu.So when I placed my order and was told that there was only 1 serving of oxtails left, my heart sank just a bit. But I was reassured by the server that there was enough. Sure enough, she was right. When she brought out our dishes my eyes got really big. I mean the food looked SOOOO good! The portion sizes are great and they definitely don’t cheat you on the food. The oxtails at Island Vibes Restaurant were bone suckingly good! No pun, I seriously sucked each and every bone. I’m surprised there was any cartilage left when I was through. For real, they were that good! The gravy was just perfect with Bay leaves and Cloves peeking from behind the gorgeous brown cuts of meat. By the time we were ready to go, my plate was basically licked clean. Okay, I didn’t exactly lick my plate, but I did a fabulous job of scraping it clean with my fork LOL.You know the food is stick to your bones good when all you want to do afterward is crawl into your warm bed and go night night 🙂So if you’re ever in the mood for something different and inexpensive with an unpretentious atmosphere, Island Vibes Restaurant is the place to score your next dish.
