L'OrealVisibleLift BlurFoundation

I have to admit, I don’t normally wear drugstore/mass retail liquid foundations, because of horrible past experiences, whether they be breakouts, bad coverage, cakiness or an inability to match the colors to my African-American skin tone.  It’s one of those beauty items I would love to have if only I could find one suitable for me.

Well, I’ve recently been given an opportunity to try the new L’Oreal Visible Lift Blur Foundation.  I already use L’Oreal’s True Match Mineral Face Powder on an almost daily basis.  It is my go-to for creating an even tone and soft natural look.  So since L’Oreal products have really been scoring high for me lately, from my mineral makeup to my new sulfate free color care shampoo, I figured I’d give this a try to see how it holds up.

I often blog about how I tend to get occasional adult acne and how good skin care is a major part of my beauty routine. So hyperpigmentation or dark spots are the norm for me.  It’s never my goal to totally mask them or hide them, but I do like to have my makeup blend well enough so that they aren’t the most noticeable thing on my face, so I hope this really does the trick.

About the Foundation

Here are the claims: This foundation is formulated with blur technology to blur lines & wrinkles instantly, hide dark spots, large pores and give you a smooth even texture that you can see and feel.

It has SPF 18 and comes in 12 shades.  Unfortunately the darkest shade in the spectrum is #212 Classic Tan, which I am using.  Now, you and I both know that I’m not a representation of how dark skin tones can go, so I’m disappointed that they don’t have more deep shades, but not at all surprised.  This is a common issue for women of color when it comes to cosmetics. Le Sigh.  I Guess most of us will just have to spend our money elsewhere (jab of shame at L’Oreal on this point).

My Experiences & Opinion

I began applying my foundation (overall, a dime sized amount) with a brush and afterwards used my faux beauty blender sponge to blend around my hairline, or lightly dot general areas that seemed a little too shiny to me.   It then dried to a semi-matte finish.

I’m particularly impressed with how well this foundation blended with and matched my skin color and undertones.  I’m so used to buying drug store liquid foundation and having it either make me look like an orange mess or an ashy ghost. LOL.   But this foundation blended so well and gave me very natural looking coverage.

I didn’t notice any major shrinking of pores, but it did even out my texture so it looked uniform.   The final feel of my face was very soft and supple, no dryness at all.

I don’t really have many wrinkles or fine lines, so I can’t really speak as to whether or not it “blurs” lines.  I like to pretend that I have one of those “forever young” faces like Pharrell and so far my imagination is working.  Just the thought of wrinkles reminds me of one of my favorite episodes of Psych where Gus was running around worried that his “black was cracking” LOL.

My deepest dark spots were still visible, but way less noticeable.  My lighter spots were concealed.

Beauty Tip:  I would highly recommend a finishing powder or finishing mist to help set your makeup.  I’ve worn this foundation on several occasions and noticed that it doesn’t have as much staying power without one, especially in hot weather.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I really do like this foundation.  It covers well and you don’t need much for a full application.  My sensitive skin hasn’t suffered any skin irritations and it blended very well with my skin tone.   It created a smoother texture and left my skin feeling supple and soft to the touch.  I am very pleased with how natural this made my skin look.
