You’re not & Don’t Be

I’ll admit, that I’ve been deathly afraid of getting my boobies squashed in a freakin’ machine, but after seeing videos of people getting them it really helped ease my fear.

I haven’t yet gone to get my mammogram, for many stupid reasons.  One being,  I thought I was too young.  So many insurance companies & medical professionals advise you to get screened after age 40.  I’m not quite sure why 40 became the magic number but we are seeing the stupidity in that advice as more and more women are being diagnosed with Breast Cancer at very young ages. Not to mention the many young ones that have died because they failed to get early detection.

Another one of my reasons (OK…Excuses) is having a lack of health insurance.  Yes, I’m one of the Americans Obama was talking about who is uninsured.  My son is covered, but me and my husband are not.  We self pay.  Like a lot of Americans, we struggle with getting adequate insurance via a job or even being able to afford an independent policy for our family. But I’m not gonna let that stop me anymore.  There are programs out there that can help with free mammograms or offices where you can go and pay for services without needing insurance.

There’s really no excuse to not get a mammogram.  It can be a matter of life or death and I want to know what’s going on with my body.

Ladies it’s time to be selfish when it comes to your health.  It’s really ALL ABOUT YOU.  Don’t you feel that you’re worth it?

So for all of you out there that are like me that are either uninsured, underinsured, afraid, feel you are too young or just plain lazy:

Here’s a great video from the Boomer Broads showing you exactly what goes on when you get a mammogram along with medical advice from actual physicians. If you want to FFWD to 06:30, that’s where Robin is in the car on her way to the Dr’s.

Hey Stars, have you had your mammogram yet? If not, what has been your reason/excuse?

I have gotten a mammogram and I am 34. I felt something abnormal and was sent to get one. The experience was scary but not as bad as I thought. Thankfully they didn’t find anything and I don’t have to go back for a few years.

Yep I just had my first, second and third…(damn) mammograms this year. All in a 2-3 month span and having a needle biopsy next week. SO I’m all for saving the TaTas!

Wow! I’m such a damn chicken. Listening to people tell me how they flatten your girls like a pancake. Ouch! In all seriousness, I’m praying everything goes well with your biopsy & there are no abnormalties.
