Today I’m rocking a nicely defined braid out on freshly washed/conditioned hair. Although I’m normally a fan of the 2nd day “worn” look of most of my braid outs, today after taking down my braids I was really digging the definition & shine I achieved with this one.

Most of my braid outs have great shine but this one had maximum luster. I do attribute a lot of that to a Green Tea & Olive Oil Spritz I made & used before adding any product to my hair. It’s really soft and has loads of volume.

These cold temps have been causing some issues for me lately, so I’m going to need to take my deep conditioning & protective styling frequency up a notch.

For this braid out style I used:

  • Green Tea & Olive Oil Spritz
  • Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue
  • Raw Unrefined Shea Butter
  • Jamaican Black Castor Oil

After washing & deep conditioning my hair with my Stellar’s Banana Protein Deep Conditioner (my own special recipe…finally mastered it! To be shared in a later post), I applied Jamaican Black Castor Oil to my scalp & edges using a pointed tipped bottle and lightly massaged my scalp with my fingers.

Next I hand parted my hair into 7 thick sections.  3 across the front, 1 Large section at the crown & 2 on each side of my nape.

As I began working on each section,  I first spritzed the section with the Green Tea & Olive Oil (Spritz recipe at the end of the post).

I worked each section at a time and applied about 1/2 teaspoon full of the Curly Meringue, maybe about a  teaspoon in my crown area.  I followed up after that with some Raw Unrefined Shea Butter. I melted a little piece by rubbing between my palms and applied it to my hair concentrating more on my roots & ends.

Then I braided the section and applied a small magnetic roller to the ends.   I prefer to have my ends curled for added protection & it just makes my braid outs look extra fly.

After all of the braids are complete I stretch them by holding the ends of the braids taut & use bobby pins to secure the ends to my head.  I do this to help with sleep at night & I like to stretch my hair a little to add some length to my final look.

To achieve this look I let my hair air dry overnight. I coated my hands with Grapeseed Oil &  took down all of the braids the next morning. I tried not to fuss with it too much. I only manipulated the roots by massaging my scalp with my fingertips for added volume & to disguise any visible section lines & parts.

Your hair came out great. I am sooooo disappointed in the Curly Meringue. I love the scent better than all of the rest of MJ’s products. I bought it because I went to 2 different places and the curly pudding (which I adore) so I tried Curly Meringue and it is a waste of my money 🙁 It’s does nothing after it dries it puffs up and the curl is gone. I usually don’t have to add anything with the curly pudding but with meringue I’ve tried to add shea butter and olive oil holding pudding and it still doesn’t work lol! I’m sure it’s my stubborn new growth and the meringue doesn’t have as much hold but dang I wasn’t expecting it not to work at all. Your hair is beautiful tho.
