Being a content creator means my days are spent in front of cameras or computers.  Whether it’s my own or someone elses, photos, videos and selfies are a common occurrence. Even when I’m not in the mood, it can come with the job. It’s one of those, you could either “take it or leave it” kind of things, that forces me to stay on top of my game.  So, I want to share some practical things that I do to stay camera ready.

5 Ways To Stay Video and Camera Ready

Always have a good lippie.

Even on your worst day, a good lipstick can make it all seem like you’ve done everything on purpose.  It starts with making sure your lips are properly cared for and then making sure that you have a good variety of shades on hand, that compliment your style, mood and purpose.   If lipstick isn’t your thing, a nice tinted lip balm, will do the trick.

Keep your smile bright

I don’t know why, but I’m really self-conscious about my teeth in photos.

There are so many things that can cause our teeth to stain and make our smiles a little dull in photos.  Things like our daily coffees and teas we can’t live without, can really darken our smiles.  Professional whitening is a great option. You can get immediate results with professional grade whitening agents, all under the supervision of your dental hygienist or dentist.

But for a more economical solution, you may want to look into buying a teeth whitening system, like this one from Oralgen.  This is the NuPearl .32x whitening kit.  This helped me brighten my smile by 3 shades.  It’s pretty simple to use and has absolutely NO bleaches or peroxides. It’s also vegan and gluten-free.

Take good care of your skin

I’m always talking about skin care on the blog.  Taking care of our skin is important to our overall health and well-being.  When we feel good about ourselves, it changes our mood.  If you tend to shy aways from pictures because of your complexion or other skin related issues, here are some things that can help.

  • Don’t sleep in your makeup. Many of us do this, but it shouldn’t become a practice. Take it off before bedtime. Here’s a simple regimen you can follow at night to help you stay on track with makeup removal.  DG Beauty | GREAT SKIN STARTS WITH NO MAKEUP IN BED
  • Keep your skin camera ready by following an easy regimen. You don’t need 7 steps.  But staying consistent is key. Wash, tone and moisturize morning and night.
  • Exfoliate your skin once per week
  • Serums aren’t just for the anti-aging crowd.  The sooner you begin using them, the better.

Have a quick hair fix

I don’t ever want to give the impression that my hair is always on point.  It’s not.  I just come up with quick ways to make it look nice in a crunch. I have to be camera ready for impromptu videos or photos on the fly, during my work week. These are a few of the things that have saved me.

Know your angles

The best way to figure out what your best angle is, is by studying some of your best photos of yourself.  Pay attention to what you were doing in the pic.  How were you standing? Which side of your face did the camera capture? What was the lighting like?

All of these things can help you determine quick ways to pose on the spot or if you’re filming/shooting yourself, the best angle to shoot from.
