TweetShare14Pin6+1Share20 Shares Nothing is more important to me now than creating memorable family moments. The loss of my brother last fall, really drove home the reality that life is short and very unpredictable. We have to seize every moment we can to create memories. I want to be sure that I make every second count and never miss an opportunity to show my family that I love them. When The Parents Visit I love it when my parents come to visit us in Nashville. Even though we only live 3 hours apart, it can seem like forever when I’m missing them. We talk on the phone at LEAST 3 times per week, like we’re best friends…which they kind of are to me. I can spend hours on the phone with my mom laughing about her day at work, about family or something stupid we both saw on tv. With my dad, a lot of our conversations are about food. We both love to eat lol. So I’m always telling him about restaurants we can visit when he comes to town or he’s telling me about a Nashville restaurant he wants to visit, because he saw it on the food network. My dad is retired now, but my mom still works. So whenever they get a chance to come see us, it’s always a short visit of 1 or 2 days so she can be back in time to prepare for work the next day. I wish I was rich so my mom didn’t have to work, but…I’m working on it. Because we’re limited on time, I like to make sure that I maximize our visit by doing something adventurous with the fam. So whether it’s a quick trip to a park, a touristy ride around the city or a trip to one of our favorite restaurants, I try to make sure we get out and do something memorable together as a family. My son was in a funky mood and really not wanting to take a pic. I made him take one anyway…cause memories haa haa!! On their latest trip to Nashville I took everyone on a 15 minute drive to one of my favorite scenic spots, Natchez Trace Parkway. Not only was it the perfect day to take a walk on the double arch bridge, but it was a great day to take some pics and explore something new. They love being able to be hands-on with the toys and it often turns into fun for us too since we’re both big kids ourselves. Going to toy stores was one of my favorite things to do as a kid. I can still remember regular trips to the mall, to visit Kay Bee Toy Store with my dad. Some of my best childhood memories are of times when me and my siblings got to have fun with my dad. When he’d forget about the work week and just hang out with us. We’d go to places like Fanny Farmer (candy shop), Old Cookie Co., walk the mall, go fishing, go for rides or just hanging out in our backyard for a cookout. This was easter week, so the kids also got to check out some bunnies. This particular shop brings them in every Easter for the kids to feed and pet. Of course, we didn’t just spend 15 minutes together and then turn around and come home. But we took 15 minutes of our time to do something memorable, that was quality time well spent. I think if more of us took the time, each week, to do something purposeful and memorable, it would make a world of difference to the health of our families. It doesn’t take much. Moments like this is my little way of showing each of them how much I appreciate them. Here are some other ways to turn 15 minutes into good times.
