I’m a big proponent of proper skin care, especially in the cold winter months. That’s when we tend to stay covered up the most and may neglect some of our more regular routines. You know, routines like shaving and properly moisturizing at night. So I’m here to remind you. Winter Hair Removal Tip Being cold is no excuse for looking like a wooly mammoth under your clothes. If you’re stressed for time, a great alternative during the winter months is to switch out using razors and opt for depilatory creams aka hair removal creams. They save time as you can apply them to all areas at once and rinse off in the shower. Most creams do the job in less than 5 minutes, even for us hairy girls. They work great on the bikini area. I actually prefer this over waxing or shaving anyway. Here are a few of my favorite hair removal products & tools below. Remember to never use hair remover products formulated for the body, on your face. The skin our faces tends to be thinner and more sensitive, so don’t take the risk of damaging your skin or causing irritation. There are specific formulas dedicated to removing facial hair. Always remember to rinse well and follow-up with a good moisturizer after use. For body care, body oils and butters are the way to go. NYX Butter Gloss is a great winter option and comes in a wide variety of colors for the season. | Naturally Stellar Winter Skin Tips Night Showers One clever way to make sure that you are taking care of your skin during the winter months is to try switching up your shower and bath routines. Night showers are the jam! Instead of day time showers, try taking your shower at night. Here’s why. During the day, we’re rushing to get ready and out the door or are on a limited time schedule. At night is when your skin can be pampered and cared for. You can take your time exfoliating, shaving or prepping for bed. I’m telling you, those night-time pamper sessions can get addicting. But that’s a good thing. Foot Care Our feet are the most neglected during the cold months, so take extra precaution to exfoliate and moisturize your feet on a regular basis. 10 Clever Uses For Perfume – Foot Soaks | Naturally Stellar One of my favorite moisturizing tips is to spritz my feet with warm water, pat dry and then cover them with body oil, shea butter or vaseline. Next, I put on some warm cotton socks. You can also treat your feet right after your shower or bath. But the key is the socks. It’s ALL about the socks ladies. They help to hold the moisture as you sleep. Your feet will love you in the morning. Coconut oil is a great natural moisturizer for skin. Keep Moisture In The Air Use a humidifier or cool mist oil diffuser while you sleep. Winter means a lot more heat pumping through our homes from central air, heaters and fireplaces. Cool mist not only hydrates your skin by adding humidity to a dry room, but it will also help to keep your nostrils moist and clear during the winter nights. Chapped Lips Are NOT cool Don’t neglect your lips!! Keep your lips exfoliated and lock in that moisture. Stock up on some good lip balm. I specifically like to use Chapstick, Palmer’s or EOS because out of all the balms I’ve used, including some of my natural & organic ones, these are the only 3 that keep my lips moist all day. World renowned wellness and beauty expert, June Jacobs has some great tips to share on keeping our skincare and beauty products/tools fresh throughout the year. All you have to do is remember to follow the rules. Rule #1: Keep an eye on the PAO! Always look for the PAO (Period After Opening) symbol on your product. The little symbol is provided by manufacturers based on individual stability testing. June recommends keeping a Sharpie in your makeup bag to mark your opening date. Rule #2: Keep your brushes clean! June recommends washing your makeup brushes once a week, or at least every other week, to minimize oil and germ transfer. Rule #3: If you can’t remember the last time you used it, let it go! Product lifespans often depend on the area of application – mascara and skin care applied around the eyes should be changed frequently, while lotions with an airless pump are protected from the elements and last longer. June provides this cheat list for ‘toss date’ following your first use: Skincare Moisturizer: within 1 year Face Wash: within 1 year Serum: between 6 months and 1 year Makeup Mascara: within 6 months Lipstick: after 1 year Foundation/Concealer: within 1-2 years Blush/bronzer: within 1-2 years *June Jacobs is Co-creator of June Jacobs Spa Collection.
