So this week I attempted greatness.  If you like carbs, then this was a carb coma in a pan.  Breadaholics everywhere beware, this stuff is addicting! Please don’t leave me comments about how I caused your kids and significant others to fall in love with you all over again.  It was not my fault, blame it on the bread.  I also don’t want to hear about how much weight you gained.  Again, not my fault.  Bake this butter dip bread at your own risk.

Butter Dip Bread Recipe - My Attempt | Naturally Stellar

I kept seeing this video from Spend With Pennies floating around Facebook timelines. It’s of the most delicious and easy looking biscuit recipe for Butter Dip Bread.   It reminded me so much of the copycat recipe for Popeye’s biscuits, which calls for filling the bottom of your baking dish with butter before adding your dough.  The end result being super fluffy, flavorful and crunchy/crusty biscuits.

Butter Dip Bread

This particular recipe really was easy to make with simple ingredients you probably would already have in your pantry.  So there’s no special grocery lists or unnecessary trips to the store for these.   It’s just 4 simple ingredients.   Butter, Flour, Sugar and Baking Powder.

Mine came out so friggin’ delicious that we gobbled up the whole dish.  Between me and my 8-year-old, that pan was dead by the next afternoon.  Then he had the nerve to ask for the last piece.  Nope! That one’s mama’s.   There’s no “kid’s come first” when it comes to warm bread in my house.   It’s mama gets the middle piece and the last piece.  Unless,  of course, if I’m feeling generous.

Two things I did wrong with my bread.

#1  I left mine in the oven for too long.  When my timer went off, instead of taking them out of the oven right away, I decided that finishing up my side dishes would be perfectly ok.  A few more minutes couldn’t hurt right?  WRONG!! I mean I didn’t totally mess them up, but I think they would have been even more delicious if I took them out a few minutes earlier.  The extra minutes made the sides crunchier than they should have been, which made cutting harder.  So make sure you grab your’s out of the oven as soon as the timer goes off.

#2  I forgot to pre-cut my dough.   Don’t make this mistake.  Don’t forget to pre-cut your butter dip bread.   It will save you a lot of headache in the end.  Especially if you can’t find a bread knife.

What I did right with my bread

I added a bit more sugar than the recipe called for.  I believe the perfect combination of salt and sugar is what makes a good biscuit.  So I added just a touch more. About 1 teaspoon more.

I also added a bit more buttermilk
