Blogiversary

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about my blog, its purpose and why I started down this road in the first place, 2 years ago.  At that time, I was 1 year deep into being a stay at home mom, after being laid off from my final  job in corporate america.  I say final, because if I can help it, I won’t ever go back to a regular 9 to 5, making somebody else rich.  I was happy being blessed to spend time with my son, but I knew that he would be starting Pre-K soon and I was really feeling like I needed some kind of creative outlet to keep me from going crazy.   So I started looking into how to start a blog.

Naturally Stellar began with posts about my nails or hair….then slowly branched off into full on beauty and fashion.   I didn’t really post about much else until I had an idea to start posting product reviews of the everyday stuff that I was using or loved.  Product reviews for me basically ignited my passion for blogging.  I knew that I loved trying new things, all the time.  New food, new places, new products, hairstyles, new stores/shops.   My blog gave me an avenue to be able to share those things with people and I loved that people were interested in what I had to say about whatever it was I wanted to write about.   It was fun and it helped to add some sort of structure to my days, outside of trying to be super wife and super mom.

Fast forward to 2 years later.  I have a nice following.  Faithful subscribers. Just started my YouTube Channel. Monthly I’m  averaging about 18k views on my blog from people all over the world.   Now that might not be much to some, but somebody out there thinks its pretty impressive.  I’ve been able to form relationships with all kinds of major brands and businesses since I started.  I  get regular requests to either show off somebody’s product or requests to pay me to tell people about a particular person, place, event or thing.

While all of that is great, I think it’s the business side of things that has slowly begun to suck the life and fun out of blogging for me.   I know that in order to keep doing this, I’m going to have to make some necessary changes to prevent “blog business” from eating away at my passion.

I’ve been spending an ample amount of time lately reflecting on the direction that I’d love to see my blog move into.  I basically started going through my last year of posts to kind of take a look at my content from a reader’s perspective.  Then I questioned whether or not it really reflects well on who I am or what I’m all about.  At the end of the day, my deduction is that I still have yet to really open up or share those areas of my life that mean the most to me or let people in on what I’m really thinking or experiencing in my everyday “Real” life.

Of course I’m always gonna bring beauty-filled content and fashion posts to you, but I really want to share a more well-rounded view of what I’m all about.

There are 3 major areas of my life that I’m very protective of.   My family, my thoughts and my music.   I guess it makes all the world of sense to me being that I’m introverted, but probably doesn’t make much sense to those that read my blog.   So I’m switching things up!   If you’ve been following me for beauty posts, nails or hair and don’t really want much else, then this may be a good time for you to unsubscribe. No, seriously.

I’m not one of those people looking to be everywhere or trying to be everything to everybody.   I just want to hold down my little piece of the web and keep it real with who I really am.   Now that may mean that I could lose some peeps along the way and may not be the most popular lifestyle blog, or Naturalista, but I don’t care.  To be honest, that’s how I feel about much of my social media life.  It will never be as important as real life or as the real relationships that I have.  Whether I get 1 new follower or 1 like, it’s still all the same to me.

As I approach my 2 year Blogiversary at the end of this month, I’ve already decided to begin implementing my plan to re-vamp my content, change my approach and really begin to breathe some life back into my blog.   2 things are gonna happen.   You will start seeing more posts about my “actual life”, not just beauty stuff.  You will also start hearing more about my goals to make my living as a songwriter and my new life in Nashville.   That means more about what I’m doing, what I’m experiencing and listening to.  You may also get a few music rants here and there, so just a heads up.  You’ll read more about what drives me. More about my spiritual life. More about how I really feel about …well, everything and just plain more of ME.

I hope you’ll stick around.
